The Guelmin tapes
Estas dos fantásticas cintas, según lo que he entendido, fueron grabadas en Guelmin (Marruecos) por grupos de músicos de Mauritania que al parecer van cada tanto a Marruecos a hacer algunas actuaciones, y algo de money, y de paso graban alguna cinta antes de volver a Mauritania.
Las dos cintas están en el fantástico blog de las awesome tapes from Africa. En este blog están digitalizados cada lado de la cinta como un track. Yo las estuve "recortando" track por track y las subí a nuevos enlaces de mediafire. La primera cinta tiene 10 tracks y la segunda 6; cada track está simplemente numerado porque no tengo los nombres de los temas.

The name of the band is: "Amnat Azawan". The name of the group has a berber consonance but the songs are in Hassaniya arabic.
This tape from Guelmim, a town in southern Morocco, is INSANE. Commanding vocal repetitions, lyrical guitar space-outs, and infinite hand-clapping vs. spectacular use of auto-tune vocals and mod wheel synth embellishments. If all music sounded like this (and everyone listened to this tape exclusively each day) there would be no reason to blog, no war, no corruption, we'd all just be chilling blissed-out lying on pillows in sunny living rooms for eternity. This is beautifully smart and modern music.
Guelmin 2: Momma Mint Dendenni & Seddoum Ould Bowba Jiddou - Noujoum Taarab El Mauritanie [The stars of Mauritanian music]

The title of the cassette reads 'Noujoum Taarab El Mauritanie' which translates 'The stars of Mauritanian music'. The cassette features the female griot Momma Mint Dendenni and the guitar player Seddoum Ould Bowba Jiddou. They are both Nouakchott based griots from Mauritania, and the young generation of two of Eastern Mauritania's biggest griot families. They probably came up to the Moroccan Sahara for a few months to play some weddings and make some cash and were asked to record this cassette. Many of Nouakchott's griots make frequent trips up to the Moroccan Sahara. This is a very nice cassette!!
